Innovation, efficiency and sustainability: a key role of fermenters in the industry
Achema 2024, hall 4.0, booth A3: Ruland supplies bioreactors and fermenters in a wide range of sizes, from pilot plants in a laboratory scale to large industrial fermenters.
Fermenters play a crucial role in numerous manufacturing processes in the industry. They provide a controlled space for the propagation of microorganisms and the production of biochemical products. The special containers enable fermentation processes to be carried out in which microorganisms such as bacteria, yeasts or fungi are cultivated under precisely controlled conditions to produce a variety of products such as enzymes, antibiotics, biofuels or food additives.
Fermenters are used in a wide range of industries, from the pharmaceutical and food industry to the cosmetics and chemical industry. The fermentation process in the fermenter includes the supply of nutrients, the regulation of temperature, pH value and other environmental conditions in order to create optimum growth conditions for the microorganisms. This triggers biochemical reactions that lead to the desired product. The more comfortable the organisms feel, the better they work. Modern fermenters, such as those from plant manufacturer Ruland, are equipped with advanced sensors, automation technology and control systems to enable precise control and monitoring of these complex processes and accurate documentation and monitoring of the production processes.
The actual fermenters are supplemented by plant systems for receiving, storing and preparing raw materials as well as sterile inoculation, dosing and addition systems and various mixing and gassing units. Downstream equipment with discharge, filtration, separation or storage is also part of the broad spectrum. The flexibility and scalability of the entire fermentation processes enable adaptation to different production requirements, from small laboratory batches to large-scale industrial production.
Ruland relies on the continuous development of fermenter technologies not only to increase efficiency, but also to support the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly production processes. Overall, fermenters are indispensable tools that form the basis for many advances in biotechnology, enable product innovations such as vegan alternatives and advance the manufacture of conventional products.
The Ruland experts will be at Achema to answer all your questions on plant engineering and assembly and production processes for liquid products and, in particular, in-depth questions about our fermenters. The tank and apparatus manufacturer M. Roth complements the cross-industrial know-how in engineering and plant construction.
