ASYS Cleanroom has installed a new ISO 8 cleanroom cabin with personnel airlock and a material pass-through at Volaplast GmbH in Spangenberg. The cleanroom is used for the production of plastic injection molded parts for medical technology and offers optimal conditions for cleanroom-compatible packaging of the parts.

The integration of the injection molding machine, conveyor belts and an automatic airlock into the cleanroom concept required careful planning and good cooperation between ASYS and VolaPlast. Our many years of experience in the cleanroom and GMP sector helped us to achieve a fast and smooth implementation within the tight schedule," says Karl Goll, Managing Director of ASYS Prozess- und Reinraumtechnik.

ISO 8 class clean room

An ISO 8 cleanroom must meet certain air cleanliness requirements. The particle concentration per cubic meter of air is regulated in accordance with the requirements for an ISO 8 cleanroom through the use of high-quality class H-14 HEPA filters and a suitable air exchange rate that is tailored to the processes and the required cleanroom class. Both the reference particles with a size of 0.5 micrometers and the particles with a size of 1.0 micrometers and 5.0 micrometers are taken into account in the evaluation and documentation.

Seamless integration into existing infrastructure

The task was to create a plan for the clean room cabin with personnel airlock within the infrastructure of the VolaPlast production hall. The aim was to design the cleanroom cabin in such a way that it could be seamlessly connected or integrated with the existing automatic transport system, the injection molding machine and the gantry gripper as an existing unit.

The entire process runs autonomously

The injection molded parts are removed from the injection molding machine via a gantry gripper and dropped into the packaging provided on the automatic conveyor belt inside the cleanroom cabin via an automatic airlock in the ceiling area. This entire process runs autonomously and was designed so that the entire process runs automatically over a working time of eight hours.
