Young Talent Award and Start-up Contest

MedtecLIVE & SUMMIT will take place in virtual form for the second time from 20 to 22 April 2021. The leading spring event in Europe for the medical technology sector and its suppliers, it focuses on future-oriented themes such as digitalization, robotics and interdisciplinary innovations. In addition to the virtual presentations by many exhibitors and a top-level congress programme, MedtecLIVE specifically aims to provide a stage for young talents, young entrepreneurs and start-ups: effective immediately, students and young professionals can submit their theses for the Young Talent Award. Young companies can also present pitches as part of the MedtecLIVE Start-up Contest.

New at MedtecLIVE 2021: For the first time, students and graduates in medical technology and related fields of study are also invited to submit their theses for the Young Talent Award. This is open to all Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates who have completed their theses within the past 18 months. Theses should relate to an innovation, improvement or new application in medical technology, including its entire value chain. The final papers will be evaluated and reviewed by a top-class jury consisting of representatives from industry and research. The jury members include leading players in research and practice, including Professor Wolfgang Böcker (Director, Innenstadt Hospital, Munich), Rainer Birkenbach (Brainlab AG), Dr Filipa Campos-Viola (FSQ Experts GmbH), Celine Carrera (EIT Health e.V.), Professor Björn Eskofier (Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) and Dr Christian Münzenmacher (Fraunhofer IIS). The five best candidates will have the opportunity to present their work live to the jury and interested industry professionals. The winners will also enjoy an exclusive discussion with a high-ranking representative of an exhibitor of MedtecLIVE and attractive non-cash prizes.

The MedtecLIVE Start-up Contest is well established as a fixture at this industry event, and is an essential showcase for start-ups and young companies with a medical technology connection. Participation is open to all start-ups and young companies exhibiting at the virtual MedtecLIVE which have a maximum of five years on the market, no more than 15 employees, and maximum annual revenue of €2 million. A pitch session gives them the opportunity to present their ideas to an experienced jury and the wider public at the event, and they also have the chance to win attractive prizes in the two categories of Digital Health and Medtech. The Community also votes (virtually) for the winner of the coveted People’s Choice Award. The winners chosen by the jury in 2020 were Mowoot (Medtech) and Mindpax (Digital Health), and the People’s Choice went to the start-up Visseiro.
