The 2nd virtual edition of MedtecLIVE & SUMMIT is the main springtime gathering of the European medical technology scene, attracting suppliers, developers and manufacturers as well as researchers and end users. In 2021 the event will once again take place online, from 20 to 22 April. Improved features and a new user interface will make networking from home even more intuitive and targeted. The highlights of the event include its sophisticated matchmaking system featuring 1:1 video calls, the extensive MedtecSUMMIT programme based on nine topical thematic areas, and presentations by numerous exhibitors and experts. The Start-up Contest and a newly created talent award for young researchers bring fresh ideas to the programme.

The second virtual edition of MedtecLIVE & SUMMIT is coming at exactly the right time, as the need for dialogue between medical technology experts is immense: The MDR (EU Medical Device Regulation) will soon come into force, digital health applications are picking up speed, the pandemic is continuing to accelerate the digital transformation process while calling for exceptional achievements by the medical technology and diagnostic sectors. For medical technology companies, discussion, networking, and finding the right partners for future projects are more important than ever. As the patron of MedtecLIVE, German Health Minister Jens Spahn, underlines: “The innovative strength of the medical research segment is a central pillar of our health system. Researchers, developers, end users and medical practitioners need an excellent infrastructure and strong networks.  MedtecLIVE provides an important dialogue platform for this purpose by facilitating professional discussions and strengthening networks.”

Three days of direct networking

“Interdisciplinary networking among peers is part of the DNA of MedtecLIVE & SUMMIT, and the second virtual edition will be no exception. Participants will have direct access to experts from the entire medical technology supply chain and can start personal chats or arrange video calls with just one click. When designing the event, we benefit extensively from our experience of the first virtual MedtecLIVE and in many areas have ensured an even better user experience,” explains Christopher Boss, Director MedtecLIVE at NürnbergMesse. “Another new feature is the even closer intermeshing of trade fair and congress, which is now also reflected in the event’s name. MedtecLIVE & SUMMIT is where researchers come together with practitioners and scientific impetus meets solid practical knowledge.

At the virtual event, exhibitors will have a comprehensive company profile containing presentation, networking and matchmaking functions. Companies can set themselves apart by upgrading their profile to include other multimedia content and additional networking functions like lead lists or their own roundtable discussions. All exhibiting companies also have the option of reaching new prospects through a short presentation in the virtual exhibitor forum. Start-ups and young companies not only enjoy special terms and conditions but are also able to pitch for the Start-up-Contest@MedtecLIVE. Apart from the opportunity to gain prominence and prestige within the community, this competition also offers attractive prizes like coaching and financial support. As of now, MedtecLIVE is providing active support to the next generation through its new Talent Award. Budding medical technology professionals can present their master’s dissertations or final degree papers to win prizes such as iPads and valuable consultations with experts.

MedtecSUMMIT: Don’t hesitate, innovate!

The congress programme for the MedtecSUMMIT explores topics related to research, practical applications and technology, providing inspiration for a viable, strong and innovative sector. In a total of nine sessions over the three days, leading experts will provide further insights into the key themes “Digitalisation”, “Technology” and “Markets”. Speakers at the session “Updates in Diagnostics and Innovative Therapeutics” explain the background to the question of whether innovations in diagnostics and therapy can be accelerated through structured data, machine learning and biobanks. At the session “Digitalization in Hospitals: Patient-Centered?”, speakers will describe digital solutions to boost the digitalisation process in hospitals from a practical perspective. And under the heading “Regulation: Don’t hesitate, innovate!”, experts will provide a round-up on the MDR, answering questions about a range of issues like clinical testing or the certification of AI products. Other trends like clinical robotics, smart living, Industry 4.0 and 3D printing will also be examined in more detail at the congress.
