COMPAMED – RAUMEDIC shows its expertise with highly pressure resistant tubing, unique silicone moulding parts and tiny camera probes

This year, Raumedic will once again be presenting the latest developments from the world of polymers at Compamed, the industry meet-up for the medical engineering branch.

At this year's event, tubing that is flexible, yet can withstand very high pressure, will play an important role. What's more, the company will also be showcasing its catheter systems, which can be economically assembled in smaller quantities. A further highlight on show at the trade stand will be an injection system with efficient protection against needle stick injuries.

Visitors will have the opportunity to drop by the thermoplastic and silicone processors and form their own opinion on how these two materials are processed as part of a unique injection moulding process. This multifunctional one-shot technology provides the system components for catheter sets in one single working step.

A tiny camera probe will play a prominent role at this year's event. It measures a mere 1.1 x 1.1 x 1a.85 mm and is an example of what can be achieved in the miniaturisation of electronic components. This will result in a whole range of new approaches for integrating optical components into catheters or other sterile, single-use products. The camera probe – RAUMEDIC is using the NanEye camera from the AWAIBA company – shows RAUMEDIC's experience in combining polymeric materials and electronic components to create diagnostic medical devices.

Certain areas in which these extremely small and minimally invasive camera probes may be used is in the examination of the respiratory tracts, the revulsive urinary tracts, or the bladder, the bile duct and also the joints. Some of these areas are very hard to access in which imaging and image transfer for an initial diagnosis is essential for defining the later course of therapy.

To actualise this extraordinary project RAUMEDIC extrudes a 2-lumen tube that is a perfect fit for the size of the micro-camera and the 0.5 mm polymeric optical fibre. This step is followed by the assembly of the three components as well as the plug.

Therefore, in collaboration with AWAIBA, RAUMEDIC is offering a modular assembly system for a camera-supported diagnostic single-use product, which can be quickly and economically adapted to a range of customer-specific applications.
