Vetter rolls out the Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics’ third phase of expansion

Vetter continues to grow and so does the demand for our pharmaceuticals. To meet this demand, we are expanding our Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics.

More and more of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies trust us to reliably fill their medications. A number of these medications – some of which are lifesaving – are highly temperature-sensitive and need to be stored in a cooled environment. As the third phase of the expansion of Vetter Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics is underway, we are laying the groundwork for organic growth. Our state-of-the-art, fully automated cold storage facility will also provide additional capacity for manual and automated visual inspection.

Construction of the extension began in late 2024, with an eye on a 2028 opening. In addition to housing a larger high-bay warehouse, the 22,500-square-meter facility will be home to a stability chamber, a new company restaurant, offices, and a data center. We are investing more than €150 million to add 16,000 positions to the existing 13,000 cold storage pallet spaces. Upon completion, Vetter will have a total of 68,000 pallet positions for various temperature requirements.

"Since the opening of our Center for Visual Inspection and Logistics in 2012, we have been on a continuous journey to enhance our storage capabilities for both room temperature and cold storage. The latest construction phase marks another strategic step in the development of our storage facilities and allows us to continue offering our customers reliable and comprehensive services for their temperature-sensitive active ingredients."

Timo Usinger, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Management, explains why our focus is primarily on cold storage: “The growing need for cold storage for many of the innovative pharmaceutical products is increasing the demand for pallet storage. As a result, the new section will be fully refrigerated. We are using the latest automation and digitalization technology, such as advanced monitoring systems and a fully automated pallet storage and retrieval.”

Though the new warehouse is a big step for Vetter, it is just one of many. We will continue to play an active role in the development of pharmaceutical storage so that our customers and patients around the world can rely on the safety of the medications that we fill.
